It has been done before for BLY Mark1 IPO.
Here some history:
In 2005 Advent International and Bain Capital & the Management Investors bought Longyear Global Holding Inc from Anglo American. They expanded the business, loaded with huge debts and spined it off in 2007 for $1.85/share. They made more than $1.5 billion for 2 years of holding.
May be BG can do it, but not many investors will fall for that again.
