Valley rail infrastucture key to future thursday 12 december 2013
Improving rail freight infrastructure to boost Latrobe Valley's export potential should be a key consideration in the state Government's growth blue print 'Plan Melbourne' according to regional lobby group Committee for Gippsland
In its submission to the Plan Melbourne discussion paper, which had called for submissions to help shape the state's planning and infrustucture priorities over the next 50 years C4G emphasized the role of the Port of Hastings in the Gippsland's future prosperity. C4G chief executive Mary Aldred strongly supported the port's development and its focus on container-based freight to Hastings would help facilitate agricultural produce exports, particularly for the local dairy industry.
" There does however, need to be a continued focus on ensuring there is a capacity for some bulk goods, especially given the emerging market within the Latrobe Valley for coal export products, " Ms Aldred said.
