Funny enough vertigo I have a 2 year old.

See the problem is you used the two things that don't work, one being smacking and the other being shouting.

You see, shouting doesn't make what you are telling a 2 year old any more believable and they generally take it as a game, which u pointed out.

Perhaps you could have put those plastic tabs in the power points to stop the issue.

Maybe you could just pull the 2 year old away from the danger.

How is smacking the child telling them not to touch the power point?

Do you not think shouting or smacking is seen by the 2 year old as a game either way?

If you always shouted at the 2 year old and smacked him/her, then that shows that shouting and smacking does not work, unless of course you only ever had to do it once for each misdemeanor?

The problem is we have been brought up to think to stop a child from being in danger or doing the wrong thing, we smack them or shout at them.

Yes that generally gets them to stop initially, but has it solved the reason you had to scream or smack?

Has it stopped them from doing it again?

What if you smack them and they do it again, do u just hit them harder?

I'm sure u see my point.

A 2 year old can be hard to deal with, but smacking or shouting aint going to help.

If your 2 year old child comes to stay with me and goes near the power point, is it ok for me to smack him/her? Am I ok to shout at him/her?

If they do it again, can I smack him/her again?
