Phosphates: President makes the decision
Togolese president Faure Gnassingbe has ruled against splitting the contract for the carbonated phosphates concession as suggested by mines and energy minister Damipi Noupoukou (AMI 310). According to our sources, Gnassingbe and the secretary-general in his office, Patrick Date Tevi Benissan, have decided, in the hope of ending the controversy, that just one operator will be awarded the concession. The firm Bird & Bird which is advising Togo on the question has already handed its findings to the government, which is expected to very shortly make them public.
