costs chase the gold price
as the gold price rises, executives drop grade cut-offs to fatten resource statements and production ounces.. it leads to bigger pays and bonuses but doesn't add much (if anything) to the bottom line for shareholders
thats the single biggest factor.. lower cut-offs = substantially more waste being moved compared to ore
