my main point was the government needs to help qan obtain more favorable terms of finance. This now appears to be under consideration.

The board and the ceo can only do so much, under the current legislative and business model and as such they needs to push for regulatory change. This also appears to be under consideration.

Qan needs to change their business model, to stem losses on their international routes.

I heard one of the unionist state they were not going to accept significant changes in conditions!

As certain management cannot work with the unions and / or unionised staff, they need to engage alternative managers, in dealing with them.

By playing hardball, I meant qan needs to use every means available to effect positive and constructive change. qan needed to also convey to the government and to the public that they need support financially and legislatively, as well as their patronage. In the last week they seem to be trying to instigate / implement some of such.

Been large and the dominant international carrier out of australia may not be viable. They may need to reduce their overseas capacity to stem losses.

The government also needs to help qan stem losses from flights from and to australia.

Under current legislation and environment, it may not be possible for qan to return to profit, because of intense competition on many of qan's routes. The government needs to control and stem the competition.

Qan is possibly digging itself into a hole like pan am!
