Could not agree more.
I in fact voted for the amalgamation of our shire (Douglas) to join Cairns, to reduce the overheads and supply a better service(which we were getting).
However the people of Douglas were then given a choice to vote to de- amalgamate. So we are now back were we started.
The winning side campaigned on getting the shire back. It was just another stuff up by QLD. Labor forcing amalgamation on us instead of just sacking the Council and appointing an Administrator.
So I ask you how do we reduce the politician numbers??
And reduce their salaries and perks??
We have three levels of government. Logically if we move to two, we would save costs and reduce numbers. Did not work here.
Finally, maybe that's how a democratic system works.
Just remember it was Gillard who gave herself a increase of 42% to her salary.
