Years ago, back in the early 80's, I bought a Volvo sedan - it was a 240 series only a couple years old GL or GLX if I remember right, low mileage - had about 50,000k's…told the wife this is a brand that is world renowned for reliability and it was fine for the first few months….then the problems started….and snowballed…fuel injection went out a couple times, transmission died, starter motor died (could have got a Holden engine for what a Volvo starter cost at the time), U joints went Z shaped…A/C compressor bit the dust…all in about 18 months. Piece of junk was costing me more than the house to keep (and I paid cash for the car)….
What is reliable? Bugger if I know…..Had a Mazda rotary in the mid 70's, went like a rocket, did well over 200,000k's, never a problem…only thing I replaced was the battery….while others I knew who had them - were changing their rotary engines about as often as I washed my car….
