What denmor, slippin and Nimbinboy fail to appreciate is that the sea levels HAVE risen due to CO2.

    It's just that:

    (i) All this additional CO2 has made the atmosphere denser, which presses down on the ocean surface to compensate.

(ii) Because of global warming, the land surface itself has expanded, raising its level in relation to the sea.

(iii) The "missing heat" (i.e. the difference between actual temperature measurements and those projected by the models) has gone into the ocean depths. It's the massive pressures at depth which are constraining the expansion otherwise expected.

(iv) The acidification of the oceans has led to vastly reduced marine life, resulting in the removal of billions of tonnes of biomatter. Archimedes' Principle easily demonstrates this to result in a reduction of ocean volume, and thus sea-level.

All we need now is a little more money thrown into research to quantify the exact extent of all this sea level rise compensation.
