The Liberal's idea is that the unwashed masses are going to the doctor on a whim, and are not really sick. Pensioners may go to the doc for a chin wag, when they get lonely. $5 or $6 upfront will stop the unwashed from doing that.
The reality is that GPs are eagerly treating people who aren't actually sick. The consults are only a few minutes long, and healthy patients won't sue for malpractice.
Go to a GP with an actual debilitating illness. They'll soon pass you on to a specialist.
Dermatology is an underrated career option. None of the skin diseases are treatable, and prescribed lotions and pills do no harm. They never get sued!
