That's just not true about pure heroine not having lasting affects.

I spent a couple of months in hospital and was getting morphine shots 4 times a day for a month and a half. I had five operations. I had a shared private room and the young guy across the room from me became seriously addicted to morphine. Medicinal Morphine slows the recovery, affects your breathing and you become addicted. They had to put that your guy through a rehab clinic for his addiction.
When I left the hospital I had an addiction although it was nothing like the young guys, I went through cold turkey for about 4 or 5 days and it wasn't pleasant. I actually had the crawling skin sensation and the craving and night horrors.

They don't print those type of statistics about hospital treatiment. I might add that my treatment by the doctors, nurses and hospital staff was excellent and they should take a bow.

It is all very addictive. I don't know how the young guy finished up but I hope he made it. I did know someone who worked in the Alcohol and rehabilitation centre in those days and that person told me only about 3 to 5% of junkies ever get completely off the drug.
