Yes, the kind of Australia Mr Bernardi works towards is one where a family comprises Mum, Dad and the kids.
Ideally Mum would be a stay at home mother whose role would be maintaining the family home. He thinks step families and other "non traditional" family groups are responsible for increasing crime rates and the undermining of the type of society that he wants.
He's against multiculturalism even though he is the son of an Italian migrant who came to this country and did well enough in small business to put his children through private school whilst his mum stayed home to look after the kids.
The reason he is a senator is because he caught the eye of Nick Minchin the now retired former senator and Liberal factional power broker, who supported him and promoted through the party branch system and to the senate ticket spot.
