The trauma for the mother might be very much more over many more years if she were forced to have a child she was unable to care for.
Perhaps you'd prefer to return to the hideous days when young girls unfortunate enough to become pregnant were forced to have the child (usually out of sight of general society)? That child was then taken from them at birth.
Hard to see how that benefited anyone, but I suppose it satisfied the moralistic desire by some to punish a young woman, even if the pregnancy was the result of rape.
Mr Bernardi will alienate many with his emotive and unreasonable language imo.
