That couple that you mention are a disgrace to themselves, and to everyone in the 'first world'.
When overseas, they are representing their country of birth.
To treat the locals as servants or lower life forms, just reinforces bad stereotypes of the 'west'.
I'm off to the Philippines in a couple of weeks, and I'm actually looking forward to the friendliness and hospitality of the Filipino people.
Even in dire circumstances, they can easily muster a smile.
Some people say the 'third world', but I consider it to be the 'real world'.
But that's just my opinion..
