what exactly has indigenous culture done for Australia?
oh dear. was that really posted?
Where would we be today if the British didn't colonise?
you would still be living in Europe, somewhere, hopefully survived horrific world wars
Not forgetting indigenous Australians had a chance for tens of thousands of years.
a chance for what? they were doing ok, living & loving. they had no complaints about their lifestyle
you give the impression you believe there cannot be human HAPPINESS without gross amounts of materialism
this is gives the impression you do not believe there exists social & spiritual happiness
Indigenous Australians have the most $/citizen, by far, thrown at them decade in decade out and we're yet to see any return for it, if we honestly admit and stop being politically correct.
what does $ have to do with anything? many children of the rich & famous become drug addicts. what is your point?
The culture doesn't assimilate.
so what if doesn't? if they were happy hunting & doing walkabout, this is not blameworthy
the right & wrong of a culture is based on universal moral rules. if a culture kills people, steals, lies, sexually abuses, proliferates drugs, alcohol, weapons, gambling, etc, then that culture is blameworthy
their culture is not blameworthy. it was a natural culture of living in harmony with the environment that sustains them
they succumbed to many abuses, diseases & addictions brought here by the white man
It doesn't help it self to raise above it's prejudices of the past and catapult their young towards a forward moving generation.
prejudice is probably the last thing holding them back. when white children are physically, sexually, emotionally abused & come from violent &/or addicted broken families, it can be very difficult for them to overcome their past trauma
so what about the more simple & more communally orientated indigenous, who have fewer role models for this modern world?
It's not about 'white man' not giving them a fair go...
white man came and took all of the good land, ripped their culture apart, then 198 byears later decided to give back some of the unwanted land. now they must start from the bottom of the heap, after 180 years of legislated discrimination. you say they were given a fair go?
was it's about them not giving themselves a fair go to grow and prosper...
really? you were probably brought up with so many good & easy things but they with torn apart social fabric are just being lazy?
like other minorities choose to do when faced with adversity.
really? give some examples?
The last thing we need is a parade of indigenous people marching with hatred about how hard done they were over 200 years ago.
why? no different to a parade of white people boasting over how successfully they stole, raped & pillaged anything of value
Would it celebrate how far they've come in over 200 years with colonisation?
oh dear
And how much native claims and royalties exist Australia wide?
not that much. if the land is actually good, like coastal land on the east coast, the Aborigines cannot actually use it. often, their land rights are just token
Is that money available to all indeginous people...considering they're nomadic and Wagyls and such stretch vast areas. Or is there prejudice within the tribes? Pardon my ignorance on the matter.
there can certainly be corruption within but this is irrelevant. dictators arise in every race but this is unrelated to the history of aboriginals with white culture
I'm not racist.
maybe not. but you probably have other unbeneficial traits
THE ABORIGINALS WERE A SIMPLE SOCIAL TRIBAL SUBSISTANCE NATURE ORIENTATED PEOPLE
BEING SO, THEY WERE THE CUSTODIANS OF THIS CONTINENT FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS
BECAUSE THEY PRESERVED THIS LAND IN ITS NATURAL STATE, THEY PRESERVED IT PERFECTLY SO THE WHITE MAN COULD PLUNDER THE NATURAL ABUNDANCE THEY PRESERVED
WHAT WHITE MAN DID TO THEIR CULTURE WAS HORRIFIC. THIS IS WHY MANY STILL STRUGGLE TODAY. FOR 180 YEARS, THEY WERE TREATED AS HAVING NO RIGHTS, AS WORTHLESS, SOMETIMES AS SLAVES, LATER AS 4TH CLASS CITIZENS
IT TAKES TIME TO OVERCOME SUCH ABUSE AND FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO BE BORN INTO AN ENVIRONMENT THAT PRESERVES A CHILD'S INNATE SELF-RESPECT
what exactly has indigenous culture done for Australia?
INDIGENOUS CULTURE PRESERVED THIS CONTINENT IN NATURAL ABUNDANCE FOR YOUR BENEFIT
IMAGINE IF THEY WERE LIKE YOU AND MINED & EXPORTED ALL OF THE MINERALS, POLLUTED THE WATER TABLES, SALINATED ALL OF THE RIVERS, DESTROYED THE BARRIER REEF, BUILT COAL MINES & CSG OVER ALL OF THE GOOD AGRICULATURAL LAND, CUT DOWN ALL OF THE FORESTS
if they were like you, in 1788, there would have been nothing here for you to use
