The oryx have horns, speed, weight and numbers. If they saw you, they would run away or charge you. Either way you would not shoot. You certainly would not "stand 50m away and shoot it". Even after shooting, it is unwise to expose your position until the herd has naturally left the area. There is nothing cowardly about it.

The debate as I read it is whether hunting promotes conservation. In my experience it does, but it does need to be controlled to keep it this way.
