Thanks for the great info Chuk. US banks seem to have been buying long for several months now, it's disappointing that there is no regulation that that prevents their deliberate manipulation.
For me, the interesting variable in 2014 will be sovereign wealth funds. Heavy selling from Cyprus and Venezuela helped feed panic and assist shorting in 2013. As for Germany's missing bullion supposedly 'held' by the US, the US government will need to buy bullion again at some stage to make up for what everyone knows they have sold.
The banks have definitely decided we're past the bottom, but there is lots of potential for gold prices to be driven by more than just consumer demand in India and China this year.
