how can we want a visa overstayer to be brought back whilst at the same time want overstayers who arrive on planes and a few boat people sent packing?

If he planned to stay in australia illegally - and that is what a lot of them do - just that some arrive by boat and the vast majority by plane and then overstay ---------
well, sorry, there isn't any difference.
Personally, if I were to react emotionally - I would not have deported him --------- I would have put the bashers on a leaky boat and sent them into the Pacific.
But, in the end, this kid did noting different to visa overstayers who plan to illegally stay in Australia - so why should we feel different?
