    ddzx,

"1st you need to understand what Buddhism introduced, most specifically, the instruction on giving up desire, giving up liking & disliking, sense control, mental purity, impermanence & particularly non-attachment in the face of sense impressions, etc"

When Siddharta left his palace and everything else, he actually followed the Vedic tradition for a man who wants to pursue a spiritual life to become a sannyasin. A sannyasin develops vairagya, a life without any attachment to wordly affairs. As a sannyasin, Siddharta learned yogic meditation and even severe asceticism before he arrived at his four noble truths.

So the idea of achieving the state of non-attachment as a way to liberate oneself must have existed long before Buddha's time.

Now, more importantly, why do you want to refrain from posting for 40-days and 40-nights to please PD? Reading what PD wrote to you; I don't think it will please him at all. That kind of gesture you want to take is never to please anyone. It is more like going on a hunger strike to show one's displeasure.

Most importantly, going for 40 days and 40 nights without posting in this forum you will lose many opportunities to enlighten someone. Can you afford to miss those opportunities?

If you want to refrain from posting because you have become attached to this forum, then I can understand.
