Freeway, i get what you are saying about Australia, but what would happen if huge taxes were in place. My guess is home brewing would become the norm. Also, drugs would become a lot more prevalent than what they already are because they would be a much cheaper option. In saying that, there is a vast difference between those who are drunk and those who take drugs and no alcohol. The drunks are always more aggressive.
I get what you are saying though and it would have a positive impact on our drinking culture, but it just wouldn't happen in Australia. So, your argument does have merit, it's just that Asian and western culture is much different in regard to drinking.
