police target low level speeders, page-46

Speed cameras and enforcing speed limits is an effective tool to ensure that the masses comply with the rules BUT the punishments (ie$$$$) are largely blatant revenue raising.

A far more effective punishment would be for offending drivers to have their licence suspended for a fortnight or a month for low level speeding offences.

Sure, a small fine to cover admin but what we are seeing these days is a continuation of an ongoing, grubby money grab and the reduction of the "buffer" before conviction is simply because revenue has dropped and / or the government needs more money.

The points scheme could be put to better use, the fines reduced (or at least frozen) and small suspensions put into place as the principal disincentive for traffic offences.
