I'm on the Graham Farmer Fwy now (as a passenger).
2nd morning where 2 cycle cops are knocking themselves out with a pre breakfast workout.
Obviously...one way traffic and no terminating roads. I realise that the 'speeders' may speed elsewhere but shouldn't they target them at the elsewhere locations? An accident on the fwy will be from a misjudged lane shift or lack of a safe distance between cars when breaking. May as well book cars travelling too close if that's their mentality.
Slightly off topic. School crossings. My understanding is they should all be 40kph. Schools are usually in 60kph zones.
There is one on Marshall Rd (WA) that is 60kph.
The reason is because the speed limit is 70, then in less than 100m it jumps to 80 and then the school comes up. With traffic management I know you drop speeds 70>40 or 100>80>60>40 so the school zone has to be 60 as 80>40 is illegal. But hey...if it's all about keeping our kids safe the OBVIOUS solution is to leave the preceding speed at 70 until the school is cleared...there isn't enough distance to do 80>60>40.
Speed campaigns fail because they make little sense. A person who does 70 in an 80 isn't safe in my eyes where I bet the house that they'll stop at a roundabout instead of merging and then exit without the correct indication. This person clearly can not handle a car or understand the road code. Now that is more dangerous than doing a few clicks over an arbitrary speed.
