As someone who has been a profesional statristican much of my working life I find one number published by the ABS recently chilling. The average age at retirement from the workforce for adult males in Australia is 53.4 years.....This is not voluntary, mostly. Things in the employment market are so bad now for full time adult males with so many jobs going offshore that it looks to be putting ther backbone of the economic society at risk. It might be time to look at revoking our assent to the Lima agreement that started it all. With so many productive men squeezed out of the workforce by the hollowing out of the economy, no wonder productivity is too low. You need a job to be productive.
