Suggest reading recent reports wrt forecasts and maybe comparing to similar companies and results. for example Apple iphone sales recently fell short.

Or maybe getting the latest top20 and comparing to one a few weeks old and looking for signs of a major holding being offloaded. Other than those signals, you are in gods hands, or should I say the price manipulators hands, and anything is possible. recent rises may have purely been to load up more shorts at higher prices.

These things can turn on a pin or they can go on for months and there is diddly the retail guy can do about it.

For ref, here is 3 year weekly shorting which shows aggregates shorts at multi-year lows (orange bars)...

And 8 month showing how the shorts are being loaded up day after day (red bars next to grey). There is some index correlation. although moves here seem to be leveraged. Note volume bars on right showing where critical volume has been over the last year. blue is vwap, orange is last so could be breaking lower.
