"Just like 1999"?

What happened that year?
Tech stocks rallied like their was no tomorrow (and continued to do so for another year);
The Euro was launched;
Bill Clinton spent a lot of time wishing he had never met Monica Lowinsky.

1999 was probably most interesting for what happened in the European bond market after the launch of the Euro when the pricing of all the Euro zone government bonds converged and the bond market seemed to think that it was OK. It was OK for eight or nine years, and then it wasn't.

Why 1999? It wasn't that bad a year.
