China recently cracked down on lots of graphite mines , illegal and legal ones , for environmental reasons , releasing clay , acid rich water into river systems .
If the graphite is imbedded in clay it is not impossible to clean it but
From what I have been reading it requires more purifying stages including acid , that adds a lot of extra cost and still only have a low quality product , meaning low purity 85%
