Page 29 of the above link, NSS use these containers to transport by road from Osbourne which is a lot more K's than Cloncurry to Townsville. Qube also use the rotabox system for unloading Sandfires ore once again transported by road and yes they are suitable for rail. Osbourne have a bulk rail load out shed but allowed their rail contracts to expire and have no choice at the moment but to use roadtrains.
