As for gas,I don't think there is any, with only 500ft of cap rock, I gather that any gas present would have found its way into the atmosphere. So if there are no natural drive forces, then pump it will have to be.

If they don't do a pilot and plug back, then it shouldn't take them long to drill, run two very short strings of casing, and get into the horizontal section. I would be surprised if took a month to drill and complete, but then we should have gotten used to things taking longer than expected.
