Sideways - there was nothing in the sub titles to denote whether it was thermal or brown coal but looking at the thick carpeting of airbourne coal dust that had settled on the surfaces of everything shown on film, one would have to surmise that it was a lower grade coal but you are right in one respect in that it matters little to those people that are breathing it in as to whether it is black, brown or purple coal - what matters is destruction of health so the rich can get richer and this applies in every country - not just China!

The importance of developing technology (such as the cold dry process) that has the potential to greatly reduce the harmful affects of coal pollution in every country surely is important and hence why I replied to the rather (IMO) unthoughtful comment by 'thebanker' about government wasting money on 'clean coal'.
