There are two stories in the papers today about threatened strikes for very nefarious reasons. One is about Hunter valley coal trains, and the other about the Bindaree abattoir at Inverell.

It seems that in both cases, the workers and management are very close, but union officials are insisting on strikes that could be avoided quite easily.

In both cases, it seems like people badly affected at arms's length can go jump in the lake.

Its a bit ironic that the previous government absolutely jumped to ban exports of live cattle to protect animals from cruelty, but if an abattoir closes and animals are starving, a strike to satisfy a few unionist's egos, is quite ok.
