"I though that you only need to pray for healing, believing that you will be healed, and it will be granted."

I think that the ability to heal the body does exist within everyone's subconscious. I don't believe there is a god who sits up there, external to us, waiting for a sincere prayer that is delivered a big dollop of belief but rather that we come already preprogrammed for healing if we can tap into it. Maybe this power within is what the Hindus call Atman or the Christians call the Holy Spirit....I'm not really sure what we should call it but there is evidence that it seems to exist within us....

The next question is how do you define belief anyway?? It is one thing to WANT to be healed and in our conscious rational minds cling to the HOPE (rather than belief) that we will be healed.....but what about all those pesky subconscious negative beliefs that we aren't even aware of that we have spent a life time filing away back there??

The power to heal is in all likelihood within us but tapping into it is the hard part. That said, it can be done but why it happens for one person and not another I cannot say. What is it that shifts in one person's subconscious to allow a healing but not in another's?? There have been some pretty spectacular cases of people being pulled back from deaths door and restored to total health and who have defied all medical explanation.
