People who say, "look at X person, they have it far worse, so you should get over it and be fine", clearly have a lack of understanding about this disease.
One of the worst things you can tell a person who suffering severe depression is to use examples of other people who have it worse. They don't give a f... that someone has it wore and it does nothing to cheer them up. That in itself is a failure to understand the condition. Often, no matter what you say to these people, they couldn't give a rats that someone has it worse. It still doesn't give them the impetus to get up and feel better about themselves.
Saying that this lady didn't know what real sadness is is again failing to understand her condition. Maybe her depression was the result of something superficial like her looks her career. But, how do you know that?
Believe it or not, money, success and looks don't necessarily guarantee happiness. Often if you give a poor family person with severe depression all of the money and success in the world, it is not going to guarantee their depression will be cured.
Not all depressions are a result of traumatic events or disappointment in ones life. Yes, in a lot of cases it does, but you are failing to recognise that depression and anxiety comes in many forms.
