Not sure where you get that info from Anonymous1. I went through all the ASX releases during that period again. They planned to do a 700m lateral but stopped at 230m due to tight hole conditions and risk of a failed drill. They stayed within the sandstone for the entire 230m with good oil shows, only about 10m of that was rated less than good.
Nevertheless the Surprise horizontal results were good. It looks like we have plenty of oil and gas in vast areas of the Amadeus in which horizontal drilling techniques will be the way to extract them in future. If the recovery from the Surprise production will be shown to be good with low declines then the implications are enormous for the rest of the area. Johnstone West will be re entered with a horizontal as JH could have bet his lefty that it would flow oil when they tried to flow test it. The size of the reservoir was considerably larger than Surprise as well. Surprise had a pre drill estimate of 6mmbl risked UOOIP. Surprise OOIP comes in around 17mmbl.
