This, IMO, goes back entirely to alleged bad management - perhaps (allegedly) bordering on the terrible. Boardroom have a good look at yourselves, perhaps?) Perhaps a combo here, of 70's style Union "I have a (cushy) job for life" complacency, amongst some of the workforce - re. workplace and wages conditions.

A luxury none of us have, (well almost none of us) any more.
