Woman enters checkout with full basket of groceries. Checkout girl puts everything through the till. No movement from woman customer. Checkout girl calls the amount - then and only then does the woman customer begin to fumble for her credit card (she probably has around thirty so this takes a while), or search a voluminous bag for her purse (in which case you know you're going have to go through the "I know I've got 5 cents somewhere" routine).
