What you say is true, except that it is the PEOPLE of the Crimea who want to be separate from Kiev (Ukraine). The Crimean military have already secured key infrastructure and military bases, with the help of Russia.
This is the key fact that the EU, US and their sycphantic allies refuse to recognise. That the request to become an Autonomic Region (and be closer to Russia) comes not from Russia but from the inhabitants of the Crimea.
They would rather recognise a government installed by a violent takeover, because it suits them.
