    Dsg81,

I have just finished watching the Bangladesh v Pakistan ODI that saw Pakistan chase down their highest ever total in ODI cricket reaching 7/329 after another Afridi special.

Now that I have no distractions let me properly reply to your post.

Firstly, we appear to have different definitions of what makes a great captain and leader.

IMO a great captain and leader leads from the front and digs in when the going gets tough and stands up to be counted when it matters. Smith had six goes at that throughout this series and failed miserably every single time.

If you think that six innings for a total of 45 runs at an average of 7.5 runs per innings lasting less than 12 overs in total is representative of a great captain and a tremendous leader then you've got rocks in your head. Smith, as South Africa's most experienced player heading into this series with the recent retirement of Jacques Kallis, and captain and opening batsman to boot, needed to stand up and be counted for his country in a showdown where South Africa's #1 ranking in Test cricket was at stake yet he was nowhere to be seen in each and every innings of all three Tests.

Secondly, we seem to have different definitions of an armchair expert.

IMO an armchair expert is someone who comments on the performance of others undertaking a particular activity without ever having done it themselves.

That doesn't sound like it applies to me as I played cricket for decades, over twenty years in fact as an opening batsman to boot. It's the toughest position to bat in, the ball is at its bounciest and quickest and tends to move off the seam and swing a lot more early on than it does later on in the innings and as an opening batsman I faced the fastest bowlers the opposition had as distinct to coming in later when the ball was older, softer, doing a lot less and when the slower bowlers were in operation.

That to me doesn't sound like the profile and experience of an armchair expert, but as you've never met me and never will and don't know anything about me, I won't take it personally. I'll even go as far as to forgive you for your ignorance in your comments towards me.
