From my experience and to paraphrase a few friends in the industry, funds and cornerstones don't look too favourably to company's that have a large register. In his case it was anything upwards of $1b his firm would not look at as a rule of thumb. The perception is that it is generally looser, with more traders due to the increased volume needed to obtain certain margins and thus greater volatility and margins.
Secondly regarding the pips you mention, anything greater than $0.10c pips become 5x more than anything below $0.10, I.e. 0.005 as opposed to 0.001 hence a greater margin in the movement so 0.001c pips make it easier for traders to enter and exit at their desired price.
