The toothless EU is a bunch of hypocrites...they allowed Kosovo (always a part of Serbia) to take independence, yet deny it to the Basques and now threaten to deny it to the Crimea, even after a referendum!!

Putin is a strong leader and a nationalist; exactly the sort of leader Russians like. Other spineless leaders come and go.
