As far as I could figure it out it seems that there is ONE original article which got picked up by others who copied or modified it.

But I am not sure which is the "mother of all articles".

Later this evening (your morning) I got the idea to phone the ministry in Kenya but it was too late. nobody picked up the phone. I'll try tomorrow again, maybe somebody is working on the weekend.

So I see one to three little chances that the outcome is better than reported:

a) Somebody said something today but got misinterpreted by the press.

b) The one from the ministry misinterpreted what he heard so far about the outcome of the drill and stated "not commercial".

=> What does "Very prospective but not commercial" mean?

c) Complete fake for some reason.

NEWS JUST IN: Kenya strikes oil & gas yet again, this time at the Kenyan coast. It's yet to be confirmed if the find is commercially viable.
