Another very common error which appears frequently on HC and other fora is "here, here" when the writer wishes to endorse the remarks made by someone else.
Just think about it! Why would anyone issue a directive to 'come here' rather than the obvious "hear, hear" which clearly implies "yes, listen to this"?
I suspect most of us making these complaints are of a similar age, ie we were actually taught grammar and punctuation at school. It just doesn't seem to happen now.
The other failing is the apparent complete lack of basic arithmetical skills. Kids at checkouts have no idea how to make change unless it's on the screen in front of them. Once upon a time a cashier would count back your change from the price charged, eg $15.50 and you offered a $20 note. They would give you 50 cents, saying "$16", then two x 2 dollar coins, saying "makes $20."
