"
West of Meekathara, towards Gascoyne Junction, there are places you could land a Jumbo in any direction....flat as, not a tree, just some small quartz rubble....and there are many more elsewhere.
Lake Eyre? Might get bogged there, mate."
Yes, with such a long range of flight, if you could do it undetected, there would be many places to put down a big plane.
And, if one thinks about it, this would be far easier than pinching a train aka the great train robbery.
Before we all thought about terrorists and fanatics, people pinched things for making money.
This would be easy compared to what Ronnie Biggs mates did. As long as you could evade the radars - you could go where you liked.
A small armed group on the ground would have instant control and in a remote area you could have whatever cargo handling equip. On the ground unnoticed.
Aussie outback would be a perfect place.
The great train robbers had to get their stuff and hide.
Outback way away from roads, all you would have to do is drive off - no one would be looking for a few trucks - nothing out of the ordinary at all.
Bloody good plan really - if this isn't what has happened, it would make a great movie :)
