"But riding two abreast means that we're much more visible to car drivers; as intimated above, visibility means we're noticed, means we're much less likely to be collected and injured."
A pedestrian lying on the middle of the road is more, or less likely to be run over?
Two abrest simply makes it HARDER to pass and MORE likely to get hit. It also forces vehicles into oncoming traffic. But cyclists dont care if they cause a head-on collision, as long as they are visible. Our options are give the cyclist 3 inches as we pass, or brake the law by going on to the other side of the road. Cyclists are simply deluded if they think taking up more room makes them safer. IMO it's a lie, you simply want to have a car stuck behind you as protection. In Auckland, there have been many cases recently where cyclists simply swerved out into the lane and got hit. They dont look behind them, so where do they get off demanding car passengers do it?
Here's an idea: you want to be VISIBLE? GET A DAMN FLUORO VEST AND LED LIGHTS. AND MIRRORS. AND A BELL
