so why did they take the long way? KL is only 2500miles from Aus, the possible wreckage is 3000 miles from KL..
no, if this turns out to be wreckage, and it coincidentally is the exact maximum distance that the plane could have flown in a straight line based on fuel load, occams razor would suggest hypoxic Pax and PIC flying on autopilot till fuel ran out.
back to the simplest explanation yet again, a non catastrophic failure which disabled coms and gave the pilot only enough time to divert course for emergency landing before decompression took hold.

change the sentence "after turning off the device" to "after a mechanical/electrical failure disabled communication devices" and suddenly it sounds alot less sinister. a jet without coms would not continue on its course if it had only begun it's journey, it would attempt an Air Turn Back.
I suspect that the authorities are trying so hard to regain composure by sounding confident on each new finding that they are digging themselves into a deeper hole at every turn. Eventually they are going to have to admit that the "terrorist" narrative is based on a heck of alot of conjecture, not confirmed evidence.
