I don't agree that science needs or particularly wants religion. What if a scientist provided incontrovertable proof that heaven or hell couldn't exist or ever existed? What would be the ramifications of something like that being made public? Would the scientist not publish it fearing the repercussions? Wouldn't that be an example of how religion can hold back knowledge and discovery?
