Seems to set a dangerous precedence for a future police-like state. Most of those who commit this kind of crime should be punished with jail, however life (if it actually means that), seems somewhat harsh when you compare the crime to those who commit serious offenses such as murder, rape, high level fraud and paedophilia with intent to do so prior to the act.
Most of the idiot's who hit from behind are young and should be given the opportunity to rehabilitate, which with a few extra years of maturation would probably be the case for the majority.
