My two cents, and for the record I'm completely anti violence.
But….. does anyone here realise that despite making harsher penalties, it will make zero difference to prevent people from offending. You could introduce the "death penalty" and it won't make a lick of difference.... people will always act like idiots under the influence of alcohol and drugs despite the consequences.
When someone is drunk, angry and provoked the last thing they think about is the “penalty” before they clown around.
Or alternatively.... imagine you were out with your wife or kids and some bloke offends or upsets your loved one, maybe to the point you had no choice but to push him away which caused him serious injury falling over etc. Do you deserve to be put in jail for life?
Each case should be treated individually, having a blanket penalty across the board is not the solution. I believe education, rehabilitation and community service would be a better approach with certain personal restrictions etc for violent offenders. Locking someone up for life so they can eat, relax and get fat in jail at tax payers expense is not the solution.
