I stopped listening to the ECRI after their recession call in late 2011/early 2012 did not materialise. These guys get paid for their "research" and appear on CNBC, Bloomberg etc promoting their work so they are well known.

There are probably other better economic research groups out there but because they do not vigorously promote themselves they are relatively unknown by the public.

I like the work of Doug Short (I do not read his stuff as often as I used to). You can read his recent article on the ERCI recession call to get another pint of view on them
