I agree with Reaper. The case against him would be flimsy. He could claim that the girl cried out so he took her hand to comfort her, then the father looked around .... barristers could have a field day with the case. He could say he caught her arm as she was about to fall ....

I don't know where you live. But I didn't touch a child running down our main street crying for her mother.
I squatted down to her level, so not to be intimidating to block her run, talked to her until a woman came out of a shop to take her, then I went back the way she was running to find her mother.
No way was I going to pick a child up that I didn't know.
This case, the girl apparently was not running crying but waiting for her family in a park.
