    Fluffy, I'm really sorry to hear about this. Must be immensely distressing for your mother, though if she's still doing this level of travel at 80 she's probably pretty well equipped to deal with whatever life throws at her.

    That said, I agree with Ravi's suggestion above, or at least some investigation. I absolutely wouldn't just be accepting it. Sounds very scam-like to me. Maybe send the professor's details and the email to the police?

    How did she get involved with the 'professor' in the first place?
    Probably safest for elderly folk to deal with registered travel agent.
